Computer Lab Expansion

From a handful of working machines to a fully equipped lab for instruction and mentorship.

In January 2020, Holy Child School had fewer than five functioning computers for more than 1,800 students. The previous lab (sponsored by the 1988 year group) had become a classroom, and the program moved to a new building on campus.

HOPSA USA-Canada secured windows, installed air conditioners, and donated 10 desktops and 5 laptops in March 2020. HOPSA 1975 sponsored electrical wiring in 2019–2020. In mid-2020, Barbara Boamah and Abena Boampong (Class of 1996) led a fundraiser at $500 per PC to complete renovations and expand capacity.

Walls were repaired and repainted; broken floor tiles were replaced. Seventy-eight government-provided desks were installed.

• Oct 2020 — 20 desktops, projector, speakers, APCs, and stabilizers delivered
• Mar 2021 — 16 additional desktops and accessories; 46 PCs total

Each monitor bears donor name(s) — a lasting tribute to those who gave.

After the 36-computer expansion, roughly $10,000 raised during the March 2021 Virtual 75th Anniversary Celebration supports ongoing maintenance — window tinting, annual antivirus updates, and optimal machine performance.

Beyond ICT classes, HOPSA USA-Canada now offers one-on-one student mentorship. We need additional computers and accessories (cameras, etc.) to grow the mentorship program.
